The sanitation coverage in the CIS is pretty much the same in 2004 than it was in 1990 (+ 1%). During these 14 years, the number of inhabitants unserved has gone down from 50 to 48 million and the total population has even decreased by some 3 million inhabitants !
Since the sample size for rural areas is pretty low (67% in 2004), coverage figures for these areas should be taken with some precaution.
