Initially, working groups collected a "long list" of targets and indicators, which were then reduced to a short list based on their appropriateness for global monitoring. Proposals were also made to the sanitation working group for targets and indicators covering equity issues. The short list was later consolidated with targets and indicators from the other working groups and widely consulted. In 2013, the JMP and partners is responsible for proposing a revised targets and indicators.
The support of the individuals and institutions belonging to the sanitation working group is highly appreciated.
